PERU — Dirigo Elementary School students built snowmen, slid down hills, played snow golf and participated in relay races at their Winter Fun Day on Friday.
Fourth-grade boys and girls built snowmen with the help of special education technician Andrea Angotti. The girls named theirs “Bill.” The boys said theirs was “No Idea Snowman.”
Second-graders decorated outdoor snowmen and life-sized paper versions stuck to the outside of the school. Parent Lenny Adams volunteered to help teachers with several events, including snow golf.
Adams, of Dixfield, watched his fourth-grade son, Noah, and his classmates use hockey sticks to bat white whiffle balls into plastic or tin containers. The temperature was so warm many children removed their jackets when playing.
Other classes spelled words in the snow or acted as sled dogs to pull their classmates. Youngsters also participated in an obstacle course in the school’s gym and ate snacks.
