Central Maine Community College is one game away from a return trip to the USCAA women’s basketball national tournament.

The Mustangs routed the rival Southern Maine Community College Seawolves, 81-33, in Sunday’s semifinals of the Yankee Conference tournament at Kirk Hall in Auburn.

Defending champion CM will face New Hampshire Technical Institute in the title game at noon Monday. The winner receives an automatic bid to nationals.

CM erased any doubt shortly after the opening tap, running and pressing its way to a 23-2 lead 10 minutes into the contest.

That margin ballooned to 43-8 at halftime.

Maggie Sabine was monstrous for the Mustangs with 23 points on 9-for-14 shooting and 16 rebounds, all but two on the defensive glass. Sabine also dished out a team-high seven assists.

Susie French sparked CM at both ends of the floor with 19 points, nine steals and five assists.

The Mustangs forced 41 turnovers and held the Seawolves to 21.9 percent shooting for the game. SM was 0-for-15 from 3-point range.

CM also received nine points from Danielle McCusker and seven from Maggie McConkey. Corrina Kinder had six points and 10 rebounds off the bench.

Jaimi Poland topped SM with nine points, five rebounds and five steals.

Vermont Tech and NHTI will meet in the men’s final at 2 p.m. Monday.

NHTI topped SMCC, 81-73, in Sunday’s first semifinal. the Lynx led by 18 points at halftime and staved off the Seawolves’ rally.

Ahntawn Harris led the Lynx with 25 points. Demetrius Rouse racked up 14. Jose Nouchanthavong and Jon Amabile sparked SM with 17 points apiece.

Brandon Matano scored 19 points, Kyle Kissenberth 17, and Alex Tyrell 15 to vault Vermont Tech past EMCC, 78-55. Thelbert Green and Earl Hassell tallied 12 points each for the Golden Eagles.
