Dental hygienist Cindy Leavitt and her family hold the derby from their backyard to benefit “kids from working families that fall through the cracks.” Healthy Smiles for ME has helped more than 200 children who need dental care but do not qualify for MaineCare or have dental insurance. The derby went off following two earlier attempts that were canceled due to weather. “Third time is a charm,” Leavitt said.
