GREENWOOD – Mt. Abram Ski Resort will host a series of events over the next two weeks, including its Kids Rule Day on Wednesday, Feb. 20, and the annual Ski Club auction Saturday, Feb. 23.

General Manager Kevin Rosenberg said the auction, which has been around for about 10 years, will begin at 6 p.m.. Donated items will be auctioned off to raise money for the Mt. Abram Ski Club.

“It’s our No. 1 fundraiser that we do,” Rosenberg said. “People come out from all over to participate. Every year, we raise money for a different option. We’ve helped raise money for student scholarships in the past.”

Rosenberg said everyone, from local vendors to fans of the ski resort from Massachusetts and Rhode Island, donate items.

“One thing that sets us apart from a lot of places is that it’s a live auction,” Rosenberg said. “Most places do silent auctions.”

Rosenberg said Mt. Abram will celebrate Kids Rule Day by giving skiers under the age of 18 a $10 discount on a lift ticket. In addition, an on-snow obstacle course will be set up, as well as a scavenger hunt.

“After the scavenger hunt is done, we’ll have an ice cream bar set up for the kids to enjoy,” Rosenberg added.

Rosenberg also said many people are excited for the upcoming Wild West Festival on Saturday, March 2.

“Last year, I saw more people in 10-gallon hats and cowboy boots than I would’ve expected,” he said. “We’re going to have cowboy and cowgirl races, a mechanical bull and live country music from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., including Denny Breau, who’s actually a part of the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame.”

The Wild West Festival began last year and received positive feedback, so it’s being brought back, Rosenberg said.
