NORWAY — The Progress Center recently participated in the 44th annual Special Olympics Maine Winter Games held at the Sugarloaf Mountain Resort in Carrabassett Valley. The Norway-based team competed with approximately 500 athletes from 80 communities across the state.
The Progress Center team competed in snowshoeing and Nordic and alpine skiing. The six-member team brought home five gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal, as well as numerous ribbons. The Progress Center team was coached by Sheli Derosier, Lisa Durgin and Theresa Douglas.
The team thanked their coaches, family, friends and community for their support, as well as their generosity during the team’s fundraising events, the proceeds of which allowed the team to participate in the Special Olympics.
