FARMINGTON — RSU 9 directors are scheduled to interview a candidate for the job of superintendent on Tuesday, March 5.

The interview will be conducted in executive session after the board opens its special meeting at 7 p.m. at Mt. Blue Middle School.

Director Robert Pullo of Wilton, chairman of the board’s Administrator Evaluation Committee, told the board Tuesday that the committee had narrowed its candidate pool to one after interviews.

The district had received nine applications for the position that will open after Superintendent Mike Cormier retires June 30. He has overseen the district for 20 years.

The search committee chose four to interview.

More than 30 people took part in the interview process.

“The interview committees were really excellent,” Pullo said. They asked a lot of good questions, he said.

The search process began in October 2012 with advertising for the position.

The March 5 meeting will begin in open session, but directors will go downstairs to conduct the interview, have a discussion and then come back into open session and perhaps make a decision, Pullo said.

Cormier, who has refrained from the search process, told the Administrator Evaluation Committee that he knows that they have been meeting a lot but they need to consider applications for an assistant principal at Mt. Blue High School.

Assistant Principal Randy Cook plans to retired at the end of the school year after 42 years with the district.

Cormier indicated with his fingers that the application stack for the position was more than 2 inches thick.
