LIVERMORE — As of Monday, the town had 25 properties in danger of foreclosing for unpaid 2011 real estate taxes.

The total owed is $24,000, Administrative Assistant Kurt Schaub said Wednesday. He updated selectpersons Monday night.

The foreclosure deadline is Thursday, March 14. The last day people can use a personal check to pay the 2011 back taxes was Thursday, Feb. 28.

“We have been in contact with most of the owners and/or their mortgage holders,“ Schaub said. “We have been unable to locate two, but have a lead on one of those.”

He also updated the Board of Selectpersons on a proposed revision of a Floodplain Management Ordinance. The Planning Board met recently to review the ordinance as prepared by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, he said.

The revised ordinance must be approved at the June town meeting for Livermore to continue participation in the National Flood Insurance Program.

The revision became necessary due to changes in the floodplain maps. The current maps are difficult to use because they tend to be very general, Schaub said.

The new maps make use of satellite technology, allowing a viewer to see if a specific building, for example, is within a defined floodplain.

The revised ordinance and maps will not result in any property or structure being included in a floodplain if it isn’t already so designated, he said. “If anything, it makes it more user-friendly.”

A public hearing on the draft will be held in the spring.
