FARMINGTON — A New Sharon man was ordered to be held without bail Monday after police say he struck a woman with a loaded pistol Friday. The man previously was charged with disorderly conduct in court in February.
Ronald Begin, 53, was arrested Friday on a felony charge of aggravated domestic violence assault by Maine State Police. Franklin County deputies and state police had responded to a 911 call on the assault on Mile Hill Road.
On Monday in Franklin County Superior Court, Begin denied accusations that he violated bail on previous charges.
Assistant District Attorney James Andrews said he was concerned about setting bail so Begin could be released. He said the new charges involved a loaded revolver, which was used to strike a woman, who was injured, he said.
Defense attorney Christopher Berryment asked that Begin be released on $1,000 cash bail and a Maine pretrial agreement on the new charges.
Andrews told the court that Begin had been arrested Feb. 7 after he was warned to stop being disorderly in court, and Begin pushed a state trooper in District Court while going over evidence from a July 20, 2012, arrest. Begin was in court in connection with misdemeanor criminal trespass and driving to endanger.
Justice Micheala Murphy entered a not guilty plea on the disorderly conduct charge on Begin’s behalf Monday.
She ordered him held without bail on the Feb. 7 charges and $25,000 cash bail on the aggravated assault charge.
