LEWISTON — Celebrating Lewiston High’s Eastern Class A hockey win Tuesday night over Bangor was Superintendent Bill Webster’s mother, Connie Webster, 89.

“It was her first hockey game,” Webster said with a chuckle Wednesday.

His mother is in a wheelchair. One advantage of that was getting choice seats at the game, Webster said.

They sat next to the Plexiglas, which was better than the front row. “She had a wonderful time,” Webster said. “The puck hit a number of times right at the Plexiglas.”

In addition to Lewiston’s players having talent, perhaps Mrs. Webster brought good luck. A traditional powerhouse hockey team, Lewiston hasn’t won the state title since 2002. Webster plans to take his mother to the state finals at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee on Saturday. “We’re going to be there.”

Selectmen rejected Marsters’ request to pass a town law mandating every household have a gun.

FARMINGTON — There is a first time for everything. And on Monday it was seeing a half-naked man in leg-shackles and handcuffs sitting in a chair in Franklin County Superior Court in Farmington.

Initially he had a coat over his shoulders but that slipped off and his torso was bare.

His orange jail-issued shirt was on a bench in the back of the courtroom.

When it was his turn to go before Justice Michaela Murphy, he stood in front of the microphone with a lawyer and tried to keep his pants up.

Justice Murphy asked that someone put some clothes on him.

A county deputy grabbed the guy’s coat and put it over the man’s shoulders. The man turned his head to the back of the courtroom and winked.

Justice Murphy asked why he didn’t have a shirt on?

The answer was he had been uncooperative before he came to court.

He was facing domestic assault charges as well as some prior charges connected to damaging a police cruiser and putting it out of commission for several days.

The justice recessed court to look at some evidence in his cases. While she was out of courtroom, the man was taken to a back room. When he reappeared in the courtroom he was fully dressed.
