PARIS — A Norway man who sold small amounts of cocaine and heroin to drug enforcement agents and confidential informants will serve 4½ years in prison and pay $1,000 in fines.
On Tuesday in Oxford County Superior Court, Norman Hightower, 31, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs, both Class A. Assistant Attorney General David Fisher told the court that the crimes were aggravated because of Hightower’s history, not by the volume of drugs sold.
According to reports by Special Agent Regan Goan of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, a confidential informant and Goan were able to purchase cocaine and heroin in controlled buys in September and October 2011.
On Sept. 27, 2011, Goan was able to purchase two grams of cocaine for $180 in a vehicle on Main Street in Norway. Goan wrote that Hightower said he could acquire heroin as well, using the street name “downtown” for the drug.
On Oct. 6, 2011, Goan again met with Hightower. This time, on Main Street in Paris. According to the report, Goan purchased a gram of heroin for $250. Both drugs were tested and found to be cocaine and heroin, Goan wrote.
Hightower received 4½ years for each charge to be served concurrently, and a $500 fine for each.
