RUMFORD — Selectmen finished hearing from department heads and approving municipal budget requests Tuesday night.
The board also revisited last week’s 4-1 approval of the Police Department budget after a resident complained that a selectman should have abstained from voting.
“The citizen complained that because one of the selectmen might have a remote conflict of interest, that they were threatening to challenge the vote,” Town Manager Carlo Puiia said Wednesday night. So, to avoid any appearance of that being a problem, he said he and selectmen decided to revisit that proposed budget.
Puiia said a majority again approved the police budget. The new tally was 2-1-1, with Selectmen Chairman Greg Buccina dissenting and Selectman Brad Adley abstaining.
By 3-1 tallies, the board approved Selectman Jolene Lovejoy’s motions to OK $83,137 for General Assistance and $$81,213 for Town Clerk-Treasuer. Buccina opposed both motions.
