ANDOVER – Puzzle Mountain Farm will offer horse-drawn sleigh rides at the farm from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday to raise money for a local family.

According to Kim Peare, who owns Puzzle Mountain Farm with her husband, Dan, the rides will cost $5 per person. All proceeds will go to the Hughes family of Andover, who have incurred expenses over the past year and wish to keep the reason private.

“Everybody knows and loves them in this community,” Peare said. “Everybody who knows them has such nice things to say about them.”

The sleigh rides will take place in the front field of Puzzle Mountain Farm. Peare said if people were still showing up after 4 p.m., they wouldn’t turn them down.

Peare said the rides will be led by Harry and Tammy Hutchinson of Hutchinson farm, who own Belgian show horses.

“The sleigh that Harry and Tammy use is homemade as well,” Peare said. “They used a few rows of bus seats for people to sit on and they use regular skis underneath for the tracks. I’m hoping I can decorate the sleigh a little bit for St. Patrick’s Day and make it a little green.”

The Hutchinsons have used their horses and sleighs in the past for similar events, according to Peare, including at Maine Maple Sunday.

Peare added that the community is attempting to prepare a “full fledged live auction” for the Hughes family on April 13.

“We haven’t really advertised this that much, but it’s looking like this will turn into quite the auction,” Peare said. “We have some very large items ready to be auctioned off.”
