CANTON — Residents questioned selectmen Thursday night about allowing the animal control officer and the Canton Hi Riders snowmobile club to use the old fire station in the former municipal building on School Street.
Club member Colby Davis suggested telling everyone to get their goods out and and have the town sell the building.
Selectman Shane Gallant said the land use committee, of which he is a member, would discuss town buildings and what could be sold, and bring a report to the annual town meeting in June. The old municipal building will remain closed until June.
Nomination papers for two selectman, two Planning Board members and two Budget Committee members will be available Monday, March 18, and be due at the town office April 29, town administrator Harry Childs said.
Gallant’s term is up this year and Donald Hutchins has resigned.
Selectman Lisa Cummings said she is concerned there is no active recreation committee.
Kelly Cavanaugh, JasonVaughn and Erin Wainwright were elected to the committe last year but have not met, Cummings said. She said she would contact them and see if they were still active and then try to get two more volunteers.
Resident Percy Butler asked how many times a selectman could miss meetings and still get his stipend, an apparent reference to Scott Kilbreth.
Cummings said she kept up with town affairs when Kilbreth had to work and Childs said Kilbreth spent three hours this week with him in the office.
The board tabled a decision on gating Meadow View Road until everyone on that road is notified.
Childs will also notify people on Cross Street that the town may vote to close the street in June.
Pickup trucks and jeeps are ruining the road during mud season, Gallant said.
Gallant suggested that if a 300-gallon fuel tank is installed at the town garage for all town vehicles to use, a key guard be included so officials know what department is using fuel and how much.
The board approved continuing the winter town office hours of Monday though Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon.
