PARIS — Monday’s meeting of the Paris Board of Selectmen will take place at 7 p.m. at the Paris Fire Station, beginning with a public hearing on the town changing from two tax payments per year to four.

Prior to the meeting, which had been previously set for 6 p.m., the board will meet with Paris police Chief Michael Dailey in executive session regarding his employment with Paris. On March 15, Dailey turned in a letter of resignation to the town, announcing he’d taken a job with the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.

Dailey is the town’s interim police chief. He had already planned to leave for a job with the county last year, but rescinded his resignation to stay on after former chief David Verrier resigned the same week.

Town Manager Amy Bernard proposed the idea of quarterly tax payments to selectmen after hearing it had worked well for Bridgton. Dividing property tax payments into four rather than two keeps the town’s cash flow moving better, Bernard said, and could be easier for residents to pay if they don’t have to save as much money for each payment.

The public hearing is meant to get word out of the potential change and let residents voice opposition. Residents will vote on whether to switch to quarterly payments at the June town meeting. If it passes, the first tax payment for the fiscal year will be due in August.
