POLAND — Walter Gallagher led a field of four candidates Friday and was elected to the Board of Selectmen with 210 votes.

He was first elected to the board just a month ago, in a special election to fill the seat of Wendy Sanborn.

James Walker Jr., with 130 votes, joins Gallagher. He replaces Lester Stevens who chose not to run for a second term.

Gallagher and Walker were both elected to three-year terms.

Others in the race were Sandra Knowles, with 107 votes, and Michelle Arsenault with 45.

Mary Ella Jones, currently serving as chairwoman of the RSU 16 Board of Directors, ran unopposed and was returned for another three-year term.

Running uncontested for seats on the Ricker Memorial Library Board of Trustees were Ronald R. Morin and John Whitman Sales, both elected to serve three-year terms.

Town Clerk Judy Akers reported 277 ballots cast.

The business portion of this year’s annual town meeting reconvenes at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Poland Regional High School.
