FARMINGTON — The latest draft of the Downtown Development Plan will be reviewed at a public workshop at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, at the Municipal Building.

The meeting was rescheduled from March 19 due to the weather.

Selectmen are expected to vote on the plan during their meeting that follows at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The latest draft is a slimmer version of the plan presented to selectmen in November. It defines a broader downtown Farmington, acknowledges the necessity of help from a variety of citizen volunteers, groups and organizations to accomplish, and lists specific activities to pursue.

During public meetings in December and January, the board and John Holder, author of the plan, listened to business leaders who indicated a preference for brick and mortar projects over events. Several, including board members, wanted to see a simpler, more streamlined plan. There were concerns that the plan was too broad and allotted too much reference to one organization.

Holden wrote the plan while working for Eaton Peabody Consultants, which was hired by the board last summer to create a plan and a downtown TIF district.

Selectmen agreed in February to pay Holden, who has since left the consulting firm, an extra $1,000 for his services to complete the plan based on the comments during the public meetings.

This is the fourth workshop held on the plan and is expected to be the last, pending the board’s vote whether to accept it.
