FARMINGTON — The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is investigating the cause of death of a man and a woman found at a home on Maple Avenue early Monday morning.

The identities of the two are not being released until their families are notified, Chief Deputy Shane Cote of the Farmington Police Department said.

Police said they were called to 202 Maple Ave. shortly after 1 a.m. Monday to investigate a possible suicidal person. They found a man and woman there dead. Both deaths may be suicides, they said, but are waiting for the state medical examiner’s findings.

Neighbors did not report hearing anything unusual, Sgt. Edward Hastings IV said.

Police said they were checking on a report of a missing young woman and found that the homeowner knew her.

Lawrence “Larry” Decker has lived at the house for more than seven years, Ann Bryant, a next-door neighbor and Sun Journal reporter said.

Decker, an electrician at the University of Maine at Farmington, grew up in the house. He had moved away but returned after his mother died, she said.

Bryant and Decker grew up together, she said. She lived around the corner from him as a child.

“I’ve known him all my life,” she said. “Larry has always been a nice quiet man, very gentle.”

It is a nice quiet neighborhood and nothing really happens here, she said.

“My heart goes out to all involved,” she said. “It just seems like a very sad situation.”

The Farmington Police Department, Maine State Police and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are investigating.
