An upscale Maine restaurant is offering the ultimate cocktail at the ultimate price.
Beginning June 1, The White Barn Inn in Kennebunk will start selling the Ruby Rose cocktail, a concoction with a 4-carat ruby and a $40,000 price tag.
Matthew Swinford, the maître d’hotel, told the Portland Press Herald that the inn is marking its 40th anniversary, and ruby is the gemstone for a 40th wedding anniversary. Swinford said for certain guests, price isn’t an issue — it’s the experience that counts.
Besides the ruby, the drink is made with Hangar 1 Vodka, St. Germain elderflower liqueur, fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice, pomegranate and a spoonful of rosewater. For those who want the drink without a precious stone, it will cost $18.
