RANGELEY — The long, snowy northeast winter has been an economic boon for the ski areas of northwestern Maine.

The resorts are reporting higher attendance and a longer season this year, compared to last year.

JoAnne Taylor, director of marketing and communications for Saddleback, told the Kennebec Journal that last season the resort reported 133 inches of snow. This season it has had 215 inches and expects more.

Last year they closed April 14, this year they plan to stay open until the end of April.

Manager Karleen Andrews of Titcomb Mountain in Farmington said the ski area had about a 10 percent increase in season-pass sales and about a 15 percent increase in day-ticket sales this season.

Ethan Austin, communications manager for Sugarloaf, said it’s been an “incredible season.”
