BOSTON — The Marathon Sports store, located at the site where the first bomb exploded during Monday’s running of the Boston Marathon, is owned by a former Maine man and track standout.

WCSH-TV reported that Colin Peddie, a 1981 graduate of Cheverus High School and a member of the school’s hall of fame, is the owner of the store, located near the finish line on Boylston Street.

Peddie, an All-American distance runner at the University of Virginia, owns several Marathon Sports stores in the Boston area.

A native of Hallowell, Peddie told WCSH  that none of his employees were injured in the explosion.

“I can’t remember a time when my employees were not out in front of my store on a Marathon Monday, but at the time of the explosion, they luckily were not,” he said.

According to the station, Peddie was at the store preparing for the big day. He had thrown trash into the trash cans in front Monday morning where he said the bombs may have been planted.
