EAST DIXFIELD – Mystic Valley Grange will host a rummage and white elephant sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 20 in order to raise money for upcoming renovations.
Grange member Hazel Flagg said a white elephant sale is when people bring in “odds and ends laying around their house that they don’t want anymore, and we assign a low price to each item. Some of the items are new, and some are old. We take knickknacks, vases, dishes, anything like that.”
Flagg said a majority of the money will go toward renovations on the Grange building.
“We recently capped the roof and have done a lot of painting in the last two years,” Flagg said. “We’re working on winterizing our windows, among other things. We don’t even have running water right now. We have to get it next door from the fire station.”
Money raised from the rummage and white elephant sale will also benefit a series of programs, including the Home for Little Wanderers in Waterville and the State Grange in Augusta.
The rummage and white elephant sale is one of several upcoming events the Mystic Valley Grange is organizing.
“We have different cribbage games that we’re hosting over the next couple of months, with money from that going to the Relay for Life organization,” Flagg said. “We have an open house for the Grange on May 4, where we’ll have a public buffet and will be awarding someone with a community citizen award.”
The Mystic Valley Grange will serve lunch in the form of hot sandwiches for those who attend.
