LEWISTON — Bridget Meedzan and Kelan McCann ignited a 6-0 second-half run as Bates defeated Connecticut College 9-8 inwomen’s lacrosse action on Saturday.
Emma Brinkman had a hat  trick to lead the Bobcats (7-6), while Meedzan chipped in with a pair of goals.
Hannah Jeffrey made six saves in goal for Bates.
Heidi Halsted and Bri Miller finished with two goals and an assist apiece for Connecticut College (5-9). Caitlin Cataldo had seven saves.
UMF 10, UNE 9
FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington built a five goal lead and then hung on for a 10-9 win over visiting New England College.
Ayla Allen led the Beavers (4-12) with five goals and an assist, while Mara Balboni and Molly Carbin each had two goals.
Sarah Merrill and Jacquelyn Lane each tallied two goals for New England College.
Junior Hannah Goodenow logged 12 saves in the UMaine-Farmington goal, while Pilgrim goalie Rebecca Harvey charted 11 saves.
Softball
Maine 2, Stony Brook 0
ORONO — Beth Spoehr tossed a three-hit shutout as the University of Maine softball team picked up a 2-0 league victory over visiting Stony Brook on Saturday.
Jean Stevens and Katlin Norton each picked up RBIs for Maine (7-32) while Stephanie Wood went 2-for-2 at the plate.
Spoehr went the full seven innings to pick up her third win of the season while giving up just three hits to go along with a pair of strikeouts in the complete game shutout win.
Bowdoin sweeps Bates
BRUNSWICK—  Bowdoin completed a series sweep of Bates Saturday,totaling 18 runs in a doubleheader against the Bobcats.
 With today’s wins, 9-1 in game one and 9-4 in game two, the Polar Bears won game one, 9-1, and game two, 9-4.
The Polar Bears have now won 12 straight games for a 23-9 overall record (8-4 NESCAC). Bates drops to 7-14 (1-8 NESCAC) on the season.
Mary Lewis scored the only Bates run in game one, which was unearned.
Bowdoin pitcher Julia Geaumont tossed a two-hitter for the Polar Bears (23-9).
Bowdoin jumped out to a 7-0 lead in game two before Bates’ bats finally came alive.
Katie Gately homered, Victoria Rusch hit a two-run double and Casey Correa an RBI triple for Bowdoin.ing four innings allowing Bowdoin to build a 7-0 lead.
Bates (7-14) finally broke through with a four run fifth, sparked by a Lewis single and Kelsey Freedman’s RBI single.
 Eagles sweep Beavers
Bangor — Husson took a pair of games from the University of Maine at Farmington Saturday by exploding for 16 runs in game two, after narrowly edging the Beavers 1-0 in game one.
Amanda Ryan tossed the four-hit shutout in game one for the Eagles.
Aimee Mortensen scored  Malory Conary on a sacrifice fly in the sixth for the 1-0 lead.
Emily Soule pitched a tough six innings for the Beavers, allowing just the one run on four hits while striking out two.
Lona Sargent led the offensive outburst in game two for Husson, going 4-for-4 in game two with five RBI, including a grand slam.
Baseball
USM sweeps Plymouth State
 PLYMOUTH, N.H. — The University of Southern Maine pounded out 27 combined hits as it swept Plymouth State, 8-7 and 12-9, in a Little East Conference doubleheader.
Junior Forrest Chadwick went 4-for-10 with three RBI and two runs scored, while also earning saves in both games to lead Southern Maine (25-3).
Junior Troy Thibodeau was 5-for-10 with three runs scored in the two games.
Nick Grady, who extended his current hitting streak to 25 games, going 4-for-10 with three RBI and a run scored. Matt Verrier went 2-for-3 with three runs scored
Senior right-hander Ryan Yates pitched 5.1 innings giving up seven runs — six earned — on nine hits while striking out four to win game two.
Trimper wins No. 400 in Maine sweep
ORONO — Tommy Lawrence and A.J. Bazdanes each threw complete games as the University of Maine swept a doubleheader from Stony Brook on Saturday. Maine won the first game 2-1 and took the second game 3-2.
 Maine head coach Steve Trimper recorded his 400th career victory and Maine improved to 24-14 on the season.
Sam Balzano’s RBI single in the fifth was the difference in game one.  Alex Calbick and Kyle Silva had RBI singles for the Black Bears in game two.
Trinity edges Bates twice
LEWISTON — Trinity completed a three-game sweep of Bateswith a 3-2 seven-inning win in game one and a 12-11 victory in nine innings in game two.
Bates starter Brad Reynolds went 6.2 innings in game one and allowed all three runs, all earned, limiting the Bantams to four hits but walking five while striking out four.
In the second game, Mekae Hyde went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored to lead Bates’ 16-hit attack.
Samuel Warren went 2-for-5 and drove in a pair of runs for the Bobcats (11-14).  
Alex Almeida had three hits and drove in four runs for the Bantams (17-13).
UMF, NEC split
FARMINGTON — University of Maine at Farmington senior pitcher Dale Winchenbach held New England College to two runs on five hits to lead the Beavers to a 5-2 win over the Pilgrims, in game one of Saturday’s North Atlantic Conference baseball doubleheader at Hippach Field.
UMaine-Farmington (7-15) could not complete the sweep, however, and dropped game two, 8-4, in eight innings.
In game one, Winchenbach finished the night with six strikeouts on his way to the complete game win.
A four-run fourth inning boosted the Beavers to the win, keyed by Brett Wallingford’s two-run single down the right field line. Joe Sullivan and Brian Jenkins each had RBI hits in the fourth to aid the UMF cause.
Sullivan and Ben Keene each finished 2-for-3 for the Beavers.
The Beavers erased a 4-0 deficit through four innings in game two, tying the game in the seventh on Keene’s sacrifice fly.
The Pilgrims      regained the lead in the eighth on an RBI double by Brandon Adorno. Keene was 3-for-3 with two runs batted in.
Men’s lacrosse
Connecticut College 9, Bates 8
NEW LONDON, Conn.— Bobby Bleistein made 21 saves between the pipes to lead Connecticut College to a 9-8 NESCAC victory against Bates in men’s lacrosse action.
Chad Sawyer had three goals and two assists for the Camels (10-3). Andrew Freedman also recorded a hat-trick.
Jack Allard scored three goals with one assist to lead the Bobcats (6-6). Jack Strain and Dan Hines both finished with a goal and an assist. Charlie Kazarian made 11 saves in goal.
