MEXICO — A local man is charged with stealing power tools from a garage on Osgood Avenue, Lt. Roy Hodsdon of the Mexico Police Department said Thursday.

Timothy Flaherty, 18, of Main Street, remained in the Oxford County Jail in Paris on Thursday on charges of burglary and theft.

Hodsdon said that around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, a caller reported three suspicious men putting power tools into their backpacks near the Honda ATV Trail near the Swift River. At about 2:30 p.m., an Osgood Avenue resident reported someone forcibly entered their garage and stole power tools, parts off of a motorcycle and other tools, he said.

Police officer William Cook was talking with the three men on the trail when he received the report of the garage break-in and theft and matched the missing power tools to the items in Flaherty’s backpack, Hodsdon said.

The motorcycle parts and the other tools have not been found, he said.

Flaherty is scheduled to appear in Oxford County Superior Court in Paris on July 2.

Hodsdon said the investigation is continuing.
