LIVERMORE FALLS — A Jay man was charged Sunday after police say his car hit a small loader in a parking lot off Church Street and pushed it into a parked pickup truck, and he left the scene.

A Western Auto employee noticed as he was going by the store’s parking lot that a customer’s pickup truck was damaged, police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said. He found evidence in the parking lot and called police at 10:25 a.m.

The initial report was a vehicle smoking, but when no smoke could be found in the area of Western Auto, firefighters were called off.

Officer Adam Sage arrived and found some auto parts in the parking lot and began looking for a black vehicle with front-end damage, Steward said. A citizen reported a black car fitting the description parked on High Street.

Sage checked it out and matched up the evidence and contacted the vehicle owner, he said. Curtis Brown, 21, was issued a summons on a misdemeanor charge of leaving the scene of a property damage accident, Steward said.

The damage to Brown’s 1994 Honda was to the driver’s side. Damage to the 1995 Ford pickup truck was to the center passenger side. Steward did not know if damage was done to the loader.

Brown is scheduled to appear July 10 in 8th District Court in Lewiston.
