WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Sam Berry and Kevin Davis led the charge offensively for the Bates baseball team on Sunday, as the Bobcats swept a doubleheader at Williams College, 12-4 and 11-7.
Berry was 4-for-4 with three doubles and seven RBIs in game one, and finished the day 6-for-9 with nine RBIs. Davis hit five doubles and scored five runs on the day, smashing Bates’ single-season doubles record in the process.
Junior Brad Reynolds earned the win in game one, going five innings and giving up no runs on two hits. He walked four and struck out five,
Berry and Davis combined to go 7-for-7 with six doubles, four runs scored and nine RBIs. First-year Samuel Warren was the third Bobcat to have a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, and three runs scored.
In game two, the teams traded early runs and were tied, 3-3, after two. Bates broke the game open with a five-run third. Reliever Mark Cunningham got the win for Bates (18-16),
Four Bobcats had two-RBI games in game two — Berry, sophomore Mekae Hyde, sophomore Nate Pajka, and senior Kevin McGregor. Senior Ryan Sonberg,  Davis and sophomore Alex Parker each scored two runs.
USM 17, Suffolk 2
GORHAM — Senior Tucker White went 4-for-5, including a double and home run, with six RBI to lead the University of Southern Maine’s 20-hit attack as the Huskies rolled to a 17-2 victory over Suffolk University.
The Huskies finished the regular season with a 33-7 record and will be the top seed and host for the upcoming Little East Conference tournament that begins Wednesday at 9:30 a.m..
Junior Forrest Chadwickhad three hits and two RBI, and four other players had two hit apiece for the Huskies, including Matt Verrier, who went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs..  
Junior Chris Bernard contributed a two-run homer to the Huskies’ big second inning.  Every starter in the USM lineup had at least one hit,
Maine 7, Albany 3
ALBANY, N.Y.— Michael Fransoso had three hits to lead the University of Maine to a 7-3 win over Albany in the series finale between the two teams on Sunday. Mike Connolly allowed three runs on three hits and fanned four over six innings for Maine (29-18).
Softball
Hartford 4, Maine 3
ORONO — The University of Maine closed out its 2013 season with a heartbreaking 4-3 loss in 11-innings to visiting Hartford on Sunday.
Senior Jenny MacDowell went 1-for-5 with an RBI while Nikki Byron went 1-for-4 and drove in a run for Maine (8-39).
Tufts 8, Bowdoin 0
MEDFORD, Mass. — Bowdoin’s run in the NESCAC Tournament came to an end as  top-seeded Tufts earned an 8-0 win to clinch its eighth conference title Sunday.
Rebecca DiBiase allowed one hit walked none and struck out two over six innings for the Jumbos (38-3). Hannah Wurgaft had the lone hit for the Polar Bears (30-14).
Women’s lacrosse
E. Connecticut St. 10, USM 7
GORHAM — Senior Taylor Buchanan had a game-high five points (four goals, one assist) to lead the fifth-seeded Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors to a 10-7 victory over the second-seeded University of Southern Maine Huskies in the championship game of the 2013 Little East Conference Women’s Lacrosse Tournament on Sunday.
Junior Erin Conn who was named the Most Outstanding Player, had two goals and an assist for the Warriors (7-11).For the Huskies (12-7), rookie Sarah Pelligrinelli had two goals while junior Rosie Forster and senior Lauren Santo each had a goal and an assist.  Junior goalie Kim Vogel stopped seven shots.
