BETHEL — The Bethel Inn Resort golf course will kick off its 100th season on Friday, May 10.

Head golf professional Mark Mallory said the golf course has been open since 1913, when there were only nine holes, instead of the traditional 18.

“It wasn’t until 1989 that we expanded to 18 holes,” Mallory said. “It’s pretty exciting to have been open this long.”

Mallory said the greens of the course “came through fantastic this year,” but admitted that the recent weather has left the course dry.

“We’re very dry right now, which is rare for this time of year,” Mallory said. “We’re hoping that the rain we’re supposed to get at the end of this week will take care of that.”

According to a news release by Mallory and the Bethel Inn Resort, the golf course will host events over the coming months, including “weekly leagues, junior clinics and golf school programs.”

“We have the New England couples championship coming up in July,” Mallory said, “and the New England Fall Festival, which is a professional tournament, is scheduled for September. We also have the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce hosting their annual golf tournament later this year, which is a big one for us.”

Mallory pointed out that there are still plenty of tee times available for opening day.
