LIVERMORE FALLS — New yellow lines will be painted at the town’s transfer station for safety purposes and to direct people to follow the one-way road.

Public Works foreman Bill Nichols told selectmen of the plan Monday night.

Doug Judd, a resident of Livermore who owns property in Livermore Falls, brought his concerns to selectmen over opening the door at the new station office. He said he was concerned for safety purposes and someone getting hurt. He said he thought would be better if the door opened in rather than out.

An attached office has been built between the recyclable and trash compactors.

The door opens out and the landfill attendant, if in the office, would step out. Vehicles pull up in front of the compactors to unload items.

Plymouth Engineering Inc. designed the office and, because it is a municipal site, the door has to open out, Nichols said.

He talked to attendant Carroll Ladd to see if he was concerned about safety.

His biggest concern was snow removal if a barrier or posts are placed in front of the office, Nichols said.

Ladd spends more time out of the office right now and didn’t think it was a big issue, he said.

It is a possibility that something could happen, selectmen Chairman Bill Demaray said.

“There are a lot of distracted drivers,” he said.

It wouldn’t hurt to look into it to see if something could be done to make it safer, Demaray said.

Once the white lines are painted uptown, Nichols said, next week the crew would be painting yellow lines at the transfer station to make sure people follow the one-way drive and stay within bounds.
