BANGOR (AP) — A Bangor woman charged with using pliers, a box cutter and a plastic baseball bat to kill her husband during a jealous rage has been ruled competent to stand trial.
Authorities said 49-year-old Roxanne Jeskey killed her husband, Richard, in June 2011 after he spoke to an ex-girlfriend on the phone.
Four doctors testified at a competency hearing last month that Roxanne Jeskey’s cognitive and memory skills were affected by the removal of a brain tumor a decade ago.
WABI-TV (http://bit.ly/15MMS6L ) reported that a judge ruled Tuesday that the impairments are not significant enough to make her incompetent. She was, however, committed to a psychiatric hospital. Her trial is scheduled to start next month.
Her lawyers, who have said she acted in self-defense, filed an appeal the competency ruling Wednesday.
