AUGUSTA — The Maine Department of Corrections is reporting three drug busts on prison grounds since late April.
Drug agents and prison officials foiled a drug scheme April 21 involving a mother and daughter visiting a family member at Maine State Prison. Officials say the daughter passed nine strips of the drug suboxone during a kiss. The mother and daughter were arrested and charges were pending against the prisoner.
On April 26, K-9 officers sweeping the Southern Maine Women’s Re-Entry Center found in common areas a substance believed to be cocaine, and also crushed oxycodone. The case remains open.
On Wednesday, corrections officials intercepted six strips of the drug suboxone at the Maine Correctional Center. A 31-year-old prisoner has been charged with trafficking in prison contraband.
