RANGELEY — The Maine Warden Service resumed recovery efforts for two missing snowmobilers at Rangeley Lake on Tuesday.

Wardens halted the work over the weekend due to weather conditions. High winds expected on Monday also delayed the effort.

“It’s back under way,” spokesman Doug Rafferty said Tuesday. “They are scanning with sonar today with hopes to get more target areas.”

If significant locations can be identified, divers may return to the water, he said.

“It’s wait and see,” he added.

Pursuing an area targeted by sonar Friday resulted in the recovery of the body of Glen Henderson of Sabattus.

Wardens believed Henderson, along with Kenneth Henderson of China and John Spencer of Litchfield, crossed the lake during whiteout conditions and drove into open water. The three have been missing since Dec. 30.

The snowmobiles were located in February. Wardens resumed the recovery effort last Tuesday using sonar equipment and water-certified cadaver dogs to try to narrow down the mile-and-a-half area where the riders are believed to have gone into the lake.

The area where Henderson was found Friday has been scanned with the sonar equipment but no other significant targets were located, Lt. Kevin Adam said Friday at the scene of the recovery effort in Lakeside Park.

As the body was located in water 135 feet deep, a remote operating vehicle was used to bring it to the surface.
