MEXICO — The Police Department responded to 100 incidents over the last two weeks. Among the incidents are the following:
Accidents:
* At 1:11 a.m. May 14, a 2000 Ford Mustang driven by Joseph Smith of Mexico was traveling on Highland Terrace when the vehicle’s tie rod snapped and caused the car to roll over. Lt. Roy Hodsdon of the Police Department said the car was considered a total loss and towed by Roland’s Automotive. Smith escaped the crash with only minor scrapes and abrasions.
Thefts:
* A Whitman Street resident reported at 6:55 p.m. May 13 that sometime during the previous night, someone entered their residence and stole an undisclosed amount of cash and checks. Police currently have no suspects.
* At 8:42 a.m. May 11, a construction worker reported to police that while working on Granite Street, somebody stole a construction-grade camera. The camera was valued at $300. Police currently have suspects.
* A Roxbury Road resident reported at 3:12 p.m. May 6 that someone entered their residence and stole a stereo, an iPod and two cameras. The items had a total value of $400. Police currently have a suspect.
Hodsdon also said that beginning on May 20 until June 2, the Police Department will be conducting its “Click It or Ticket” campaign to enforce state seat belt laws.
“There will be zero tolerance with this policy,” Hodsdon said. “If you’re not wearing your seat belt, we will give you a ticket.”
The campaign is paid for with a grant from the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety.
