In advance of predicted heavy rain Saturday, the Maine Principals’ Association and the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference have postponed two major events.
The KVAC track and field championships, originally scheduled for Saturday at 9 a.m. at Morse in Bath, have been pushed back to Monday, May 27 at the same time and at the same venue.
According to a memo sent by Leavitt Area High School AD Jeff Ramich, the decision was “very difficult decision because of the holiday weekend, but because the forecast is calling for over two inches of rain for (Friday) and Saturday with temps only reaching 50 with winds up to 25 knots, we felt with what information we had this is the best decision for the over 800 student athletes that will be competing, and of course everyone else that will be in attendance. The forecast for Monday is sunny and 63.”
The MPA singles tennis tournament has also been altered. Though it will go on as scheduled Saturday — with previously published and assigned times intact — the venue has changed from Lewiston High School’s outdoor complex to the Racket & Fitness Center at 2445 Congress St. in Portland.
