PERU — The proposed town budget for 2013-14 has less money for the Fire Department, Town Office operations and municipal officers.

A public hearing on the annual town meeting warrant is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the old Peru school.

The $717,600 budget proposal is $59,048 less than the current fiscal year.

There is $2,000 less for the Fire Department, $11,500 less for Town Office operations, $1,500 less for municipal officers, $2,250 less for general administration, $500 less for General Assistance, $500 less for recreation and $200 less for the Historical Society building.

Increases from the current year are $800 for cemeteries and the war memorial and $8,170 for summer roads.

The annual town meeting warrant will be voted on June 11 at the Town Office.

Also that day, voters will elect a selectman and board secretary.

Selectman Jim Pulsifer, former Selectman Ed Ferland and Dirigo High School history teacher Kurt Rowley are running for a three-year term as selectman.

Valerie Taylor and Angela Barkhouse are running for board secretary.

Taylor lives on High Street with her husband and two sons. She has been office manager for her husband’s business for many years and also worked for the State of Maine in the register of Motor Carrier services for five years.

Barkhouse worked for William Porter Inc. as an office assistant until the business closed in 2005. She lives on Ridge Road with a 12-year-old daughter. She also has an adult daughter.
