DIXFIELD — The RSU 10 board announced Tuesday that it will meet Monday, June 3, to interview the finalist for superintendent.

Board Chairman Jerry Wiley said the meeting will open in public session at the central office and immediately go into executive session at 6:30 p.m. He said the new superintendent may be announced after the interview.

The candidate was recommended by the Superintendent Search Committee.

Assistant Superintendent Gloria Jenkins passed out the finalist’s resume and suggested questions for board members to use, if they desire. On Wednesday, May 29, several board members will visit the school district where the candidate is an administrator.

Superintendent Tom Ward resigned to become superintendent of RSU 9 in Farmington on July 1. He has served RSU 10 for four years.

Richard Abramson of Arundel was hired to work two days a week until a permanent superintendent is hired.

In other matters Tuesday, the board granted permission for Dirigo High School junior Brian Volkernik to start a club that would be part of a national youth fishing program.

“We could be the first school in Maine with this club,” he said before the board unanimously approved his request.

He said 43 schools in New Hampshire already offer the program, which promotes fishing and offers scholarships for those who qualify.

The board also accepted the resignation of Valerie Wolstencroft, a literacy teacher at Dirigo Middle School, who is retiring after teaching for 26 years.
