RUMFORD — Expressive Movement Performing Arts Center will present a dance rendition of the movie “Sister Act 2” at 6 p.m. Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1, in the Muskie Auditorium at Mountain Valley High School.

Director and choreographer Debbie Murphy said each year, starting in September, she will select a movie or a theme that “is fun for the kids.”

“I try to find something that is family-orientated, as far as content goes,” Murphy said. “That’s harder to do nowadays. I’ve always liked the storyline of ‘Sister Act 2’ and thought it would make for a nice dance.”

Murphy said her students have spent “34 to 35 weeks” practicing dance routines. The show will feature a variety of choreography, including tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical and hip-hop, she said.

Prior to the dance performance, Nina’s Real Notes, a local singing group that practices at the Expressive Movement Performing Arts Center, will sing a medley of songs from “Sister Act 2.” According to Murphy, the singing group is led by Bryant Pond resident Thea Dunn, who also runs a studio in Hanover.

Murphy said her dance students range in age from 3-year-olds to adults.

“Some of the people in my dance studio have been with me for five or six years,” she said. “This year, we have about 90 or 95 students involved with this year’s performance.”

Doors will open at 5 p.m. both nights. Tickets for the performance will be available at the door and are $10 for adults and $8 for students.
