RUMFORD — Residents voted against a series of articles that would have allowed the town of Rumford to sell two lots along the Androscoggin River and a right-of-way easement across a third lot to a zip line park developer for $1 each.
Town Manager Carlo Puiia said that each article was defeated by a narrow margin, with Article 46, asking if the town would like to sell a parcel of land behind the Rumford Public Library, being defeated by a 100-99 vote.
“We asked if the legislative body would like a recount, but they voted against it,” Puiia said.
Rumford attorney and local zip line park developer Thomas Carey wanted to buy two lots along the Androscoggin River. Lot 248 includes the portion of the lot not needed for the town snow dump or other town purposes. Lot 250 includes the portion not needed for current library purposes and the portion east of the parking lot and current fence, and a 10-foot right of way along the western side of the current fence to Chisholm park.
