LIVERMORE — Jessica Tessier and Rod Newman, both self-employed business owners, are vying for a two-year selectperson’s term Tuesday.

The polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Livermore Town Office.

Both candidates were sent questionnaires on issues voters will face at the town meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the Livermore Elementary School in Livermore.

Tessier was the only one to respond.

Tessier, 35, is co-owner of Tessier Trucking & Farm on Pike Road in Livermore. She runs the business with her husband, John.

She still has not made up her mind on how she will vote on a citizens’ referendum question asking voters if they want to change the administrative assistant position from appointment to elected.

“At this time I am undecided,” she said. “Both elected and appointed have pros and cons and I am still weighing them out.”

She favors eliminating 42 of the town’s 54 streetlights if it benefits the town. It is anticipated that it will save $5,000 in the first year. Lights will be left at most major intersections.

“I think if it is going to be a significant savings to the town, then by all means they should be eliminated. I personally don’t feel they are necessary,” Tessier said.

She believes she has a lot to offer the town.

“I’ve been on the Road Committee for the past year,” she said. “I worked for the town of Turner on its road crew so I’ve got a better understanding for the costs and what it takes to get things done.”

She has worked as a mechanic, driven trucks and knows everything that goes into it to make a successful operation, including doing equipment maintenance, she said.

“I know how to work as a team,” she said. “I have been running and managing our business for quite some time.”
