NEW VINEYARD — A long-awaited Barker Road rebuilding and repaving project will begin Monday, June 10.
“We have the money, and we’re ready to roll,” Selectman Fay Adams said.
In March, voters approved spending $308,000 to rebuild and pave nearly a mile on the public way. The road extends from Route 27 to Route 234, near Porter Lake, and much of it has deteriorated.
Adams, chairwoman of the Board of Selectmen, said voters agreed to pay for the project with $40,000 in certificate of deposit savings and $93,000 from the Urban Renewal Initiative Program account. Voters approved borrowing the remaining $175,000 needed.
The project involves a 4,700-foot section from Herrick Mountain Road and to just before resident Bruce Turcotte’s home, Adams said. At times the road may be closed completely and will be reduced to single-lane traffic most of the time. It will be an inconvenient period for up to three months, she said, and those who might need to get somewhere in a hurry should plan an alternative route.
Some of the work has been contracted, and the rest will be done by a town crew. For information about the construction schedule, residents can contact Earl “Duffer” Luce Jr. at 652-2358.
