Babe Ruth
99 Restaurant 8, Dube Flower 6
In the first interleague Babe Ruth game of 2013, Dube Flower of Elliot Avenue travelled to Auburn Suburban’s complex to square off against Ninety-nine Restaurant. As happened last year, each league replaced some of their intra-league games with match-ups against the cross-town league. And it appears to be a success.
Damien St.Pierre took the mound for Ninety-nine against many former teammates from Elliot where he played the last four seasons in Little League. He made quick work of the first three batters he faced on a groundout, a flyout, and a strikeout.
Dube Flower starter, Jean-Luc Dostie, didn’t fare as well. Jarod Plourde reached on a misplayed ground ball to shortstop before stealing second base. Dostie retired the next two hitters before Lou Jensen doubled to right centerfield, sending Plourde home for the game’s first run. St.Pierre helped his own cause, driving Jensen home for a 2-0 lead. Dostie ended the threat with a punchout.
Dube battled back in the top of the second inning. Nate Mercier and Colby Bilodeau drew back to back, full count walks off St.Pierre before Grant Hartley lined a single back through the box to load the bases. Jordan Dumont then drove home a pair when his single to left was mishandled evening the score at two apiece. St.Pierre then settled down, striking out two of the next three to end the inning.
Dostie was efficient in the bottom half of the inning, retiring three straight. Ninety-nine duplicated the feat in the top of the third to maintain the 2-2 tie.
99’s bats heated up again in the bottom of the frame as Plourde led off by grounding a single through the left side and promptly stealing his second base of the game. He reached third on a slow ground ball to first base, and was driven home on a long sacrifice fly off the bat of Caelan Pelletier. Jensen then drove a ball to deep center field for his second double of the day. St.Pierre drove him home on the very next pitch for a 4-2 lead.
ASLL Major
Gifford’s 10    Pepsi 0
Gifford’s combined timely offense with strong pitching to claim a rain-soaked, 10-0 win over Pepsi.  Austin Brown went 2-3 ripping a lead-off triple for Gifford’s and Nick Hathaway contributed two hits as well for the Gifford offense.  In the final frame, Chris Ivers ripped a double to the right-center gap to score two for Gifford’s.
Pepsi’s offense was held in check by a strong start by Ethan Brown and solid relief from Cameron Sturgis as they combined to strike out 7 and walk only one.  Storm Jipson and John Shea had singles for Pepsi.  Pepsi’s defense was bolstered by Keenan St. Pierre who turned in a web gem at second base.
