LEWISTON — Police say domestic violence escalated as a gunshot rang out near a busy street Sunday night.
According to David St. Pierre of the Lewiston Police Department, officers responded to a gunshot in the vicinity of Sabattus Street and Fairlawn Avenue around 8:45 p.m.
St. Pierre said that a confrontation between Tysha Pelletier, 20, of 4 Sheffield Ave. and Billy-Jo Rucker, 33, of 532 Sabattus St., turned from verbal to physical.
At some point, St. Pierre said, “(Pelletier) assaulted him,” at which point Rucker retrieved a 9mm handgun and fired a single shot.
According to St. Pierre, the shot was not directed at people or property, and there were no injuries. Furthermore, St. Pierre said Rucker legally owned the handgun.
Pelletier has been charged with domestic violence assault and Rucker with reckless conduct.
