OXFORD — Kenny Rogers is coming to the Oxford Fair.
The legendary country singer will perform Saturday, Sept. 14, at the fairgrounds off Pottle Road. Tickets are $10, Oxford Fair President Jackie Young said Tuesday.
Rogers is one of music’s legendary voices with classics such as “Lucille” and “The Gambler,” a story song that became a television movie starring Rogers in the title role.
Rogers’ long list of classics includes 24 No. 1 hits, including “Lady,” “She Believes in Me,” “Islands in the Stream” and “We’ve Got Tonight.”
According to his website, Rogers has received hundreds of awards for his music and charity work, including three Grammys, 11 People’s Choice Awards, 18 American Music Awards, eight Academy of Country Music awards and five Country Music Association awards.
Young said that like last year when Leann Rimes was contracted to play the fair, “friends in the community” have sponsored the appearance of Rogers.
Caroline Kole, a 15-year-old country star, will open for Rogers.
According to Kole’s website, she has released four CDs of original music and has signed a deal with SONY/ATV in Nashville. She has opened concerts across the nation for artists, including Reba McEntire, Martina McBride, Blake Shelton and Alan Jackson, and has sung live with Sheryl Crow, Pat Benatar, Charlie Daniels and the Go-Gos.
The Oxford Fair runs Sept. 11-14. Drawing from last year’s successful fair with a focus on family and agriculture, new affordable pricing, exciting entertainment and educational displays, Young said there will be something for everyone.
