Recently, workers’ compensation insurer Maine Employers’ Mutual Insurance Company recognized Hammond Lumber Co. of Belgrade for outstanding performance in its workers’ compensation programs. One of the largest building material suppliers in Maine since its founding 60 years ago, Hammond Lumber employs more than 400 people in 12 locations across the state, including Auburn. The award was based on Hammond Lumber’s consistent, accountability-based approach to worker safety, demonstrating a commitment initiated by senior management and sustained by each one of the company’s associates. John Leonard, center, MEMIC president and CEO, presented a certificate to Rob Wiles, left, director of Human Resources at Hammond Lumber, and Bruce Pelletier, right, Hammond Lumber safety manager.
