LISBON — A Lisbon firefighter said the call came too late to save a home from a devastating fire that brought mutual aid from three surrounding communities.
According to Capt. J. P. Adams of the Lisbon Fire Department, the call was received at 11:30 p.m. Saturday and the house was fully involved when they arrived at 6 Cody Lane.
“It pretty much collapsed when we arrived,” Adams said, “It had a pretty good jump on us.”
Assistance came from Topsham, Durham and Lewiston, putting about 25 to 30 firefighters on the scene, according to Adams. One officer at the scene described the flames as reaching 30 feet above the trees.
The home was unoccupied when fire crews arrived. However, Adams said there is still some debate as to whether anyone was home when the fire first broke out. It appears both resident cats made it out on their own.
Adams said the bulk of the fire was under control within the first 30 minutes, but a firetruck stayed overnight to watch for flare-ups.
“We actually just got back,” Adams said Sunday evening, noting the investigation process revealed some hot spots that had to be hosed down.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
A fire at the end of Cody Lane in Lisbon destroyed a large single story home that began shortly before midnight Saturday night. According to police at the scene, flames were shooting 30 feet above the trees when they arrived. Firefighters had no chance to save the house as it was fully engulfed. More details will follow when they become available.
