FARMINGTON — A Bath woman was injured Wednesday when her car crossed into oncoming traffic on routes 2 and 4 and landed in a ditch.
Melissa Burgess, 43, was alone traveling west on what is also known as the Wilton Road when her 2006 Pontiac sedan veered into oncoming traffic, sideswiping a vehicle driven by Laurie Gooding of Rangeley, police said.
Burgess’s car hit a utility pole and went into the ditch between Cushing Motor Sports and Splash and Dash car wash about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Farmington Officer Ryan Rosie said.
Burgess was transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital by NorthStar ambulance suffering a laceration on her arm and other cuts, he said.
No one else was injured.
Gooding’s car received minor damage.
At the scene, Gooding said she was behind a blue Volkswagen, also traveling east, when it made a quick turn into the car wash. She realized the driver turned to avoid a head-on crash with Burgess’s car. Burgess’s car then sideswiped Gooding’s Honda, she said.
Electricity along the Wilton Road was shut off for nearly an hour as Central Maine Power crews replaced the damaged pole.
