LEWISTON — At least one person was injured following a collision in Lewiston on Monday night.
At about 9:55 p.m., Lewiston police, fire and rescue were alerted to a two-vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection of Sabattus and Russell streets.
Kyle Bellefleur of Lewiston said he was traveling east on Sabattus Street in his Chevrolet and attempting to make a left-hand turn on to Russell Street, when he noticed the other vehicle, a Honda, driving west straight through the intersection at a green light.
The Honda struck Bellefleur’s car broadside as he was making the turn, spinning it around in the intersection.
According to officer Nicholas Meserve of the Lewiston Police Department, the driver of the Honda was transported to the hospital, complaining of back pain.
Bellefleur said he had just paid off his vehicle but was relieved he was fully insured. After questioning, Bellefleur was able to drive his car away.
Information on the driver of the Honda and his status was not available Monday night. The incident is still being investigated by the Lewiston Police Department.
Editor’s note: This story has been corrected to indicate that the driver who was transported to the hospital, Joseph Toothaker, was traveling west and had the right-of-way through a green light when he was struck.
