CANTON — Shane Gallant was elected Board of Selectmen Chairman at the last selectman meeting and Lisa Cummings was elected co-Chairman.
One newly elected selectman, Robert Walker, was present tonight but the other, Bryan Keene was at the RSU 10 vote along with Town Administrator Harry Childs.
The board voted to reappoint several office-holders to their posts, including Sexton Don Cummings, Code Enforcement Officer Jack Plumley, Animal Control Officer Tracey Wing and Plumbing Inspector Kay Hawkins.
The board also divided up appointments for liaison between committees and the board. Jackie Conant offered to attend meeting with the Planning Board and the Sewer and Budget committees. Lisa Cummings offered to work with animal control and the Recreation Committee. Walker offered to work with the Budget Committee and the Highway Department. Gallant took Parks and Trails and Keene was appointed to the Town Office and the Planning Board.
Cummings shared several concerns that the Recreational Committee had. the main concern was where to store equipment. The board suggested the old school was suitable, and several members of the old school committee who were present agreed.
Cummings said a pole at the ball field was leaning. Gallant asked the fire department to see about getting it fixed. The board also discussed the condition of several buildings at the ball field and suggested the red building should be torn down due to its condition.
Cummings said the Recreation Committee was considering having an Easter Parade next year.
The board was informed that Highway Foreman Don Cummings will be going on vacation next week. Gallant said he would take care of any situations that arose.
