1923 – 2013

AUGUSTA — Etta Currier Hall, 89, of Wayne, died peacefully Wednesday, July 24, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation-Glenridge, after a short illness, with her family by her side.

She was born in Mount Vernon, Oct. 7, 1923, the daughter of Carl W. and Olive (Robinson) Currier. She graduated from Kent’s Hill Prepartory and Junior College in 1943, with honors and from Bliss College and Business School in Lewiston, with honors.

She was employed in the main office at the B. Peck Co., in Lewiston as an auditor in the bookkeeping department. From there, she went to work for the Kennebec Pulp and Paper Co. as a bookkeeper and secretary.

Etta married Charles Hall in the Baptist Church in Mount Vernon on July 2, 1947 and had three children. Etta was a former member of the Liberty Rebekah Lodge, Auburn, Pine Tree Grange 3 in Lisbon, served on the Adult Girl Scout Committee for eight years in Wayne as a committee member, secretary and treasurer.

She was also a member of the Maine Antique Power Association for 10 years, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, and the DAV Commanders Club, Silver Leader.

Etta and her late husband, Charlie, moved to Wayne in 1951 and never left. They named their youngest son for the town. Her hobbies included flower and vegetable gardening, photography, traveling, fishing and hunting. She loved working on family genealogy for many years.

She is survived by her son, Gary Hall and his wife, Cindy, of Monmouth; daughter, DeAnna McConnell and her husband, Jim, of Ayer, Mass.; three sisters, Owena Black of Augusta, Sylvia Winchenbach of Chelsea and Ruby Plaisted and her husband, Roger, of Vienna; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Sarah McConnell and her children, Amber and Julian, of Ayer, Mass., Wendy Rosko and her husband, Mike and their daughter, Heather, of Marlboro, Mass., Dylan McConnell and his children, Kyleigh and Corwin of Winchendon, Mass., Shannon Hall and her daughter, Mia and son Lucas, of Bradenton, Fla., Jennifer Schanholtzer and her husband, Josh and their son, Jacob, Matt and Erin Hall and their daughter, Cayleigh, of Oxford and Megan Hall, of Gardiner.

The greatest love of her life was being a mother, grandmother and great-grammie.

Etta was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Charles; her son, Wayne; her sister, Winnie Currier; brothers, Leon Currier, Walter Currier, and Frank Currier; and brothers-in-law, Philip “Bud” Black and James Winchenbach.
