PARIS — A Paris man will be holding a family dance from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at the South Paris Legion Post .

T.J. Williams of Paris said that he has been hosting a dance for families to attend at the South Paris Legion “for 22 years.” The dance, which he calls the “Big Bang Family Bash,” will cost $5 per child and will feature music and snacks for all families who attend.

“I’ve been doing this to try and keep children off the streets and keep the crime in town down,” Williams said Tuesday afternoon. “It helps bring families together and gives the kids something to do besides hanging out in the streets.”

Williams said that he tries to host a dance “at least twice a month,” but has found it difficult to schedule dates since kids “are busier during the summer.”

The Big Bang Family Bash will contain “good, healthy stuff to eat and drink,” according to Williams.

“I don’t do sugar dances,” Williams laughed. “I don’t have any soda or any kind of junk. I serve water, Gatorade and other stuff like that. Sometimes, I put out some potato chips, but I try to make the dance as healthy as possible.”

In addition to hosting the dance, Williams also acts as the disc jockey. He said he plays “a little bit of everything.”

“I’ll do music from the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s or present day,” Williams said. “I take requests and will try to put on whatever the kids want to hear.”
