FARMINGTON — A local man received a ticket on a felony charge of driving under the influence after he crashed his car Saturday night at the intersection of Bailey Hill and Osborne Road.
Scott Osborne, 42, of Farmington admitted to drinking, but told police that he wasn’t driving the 1996 Ford Taurus that struck a guardrail at the turn onto Osborne Road, Rachel Heseltine, Farmington Police secretary, read from the police report.
Osborne’s girlfriend, Debra Howard, and their 1-year-old baby, JoyLyn, were transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital by NorthStar ambulance. Howard complained of arm and shoulder pain. Although the baby did not appear injured, she was transported for an evaluation because of her age, Heseltine said.
Farmington police Officer Ryan Rosie responded to the report of an accident at 7:39 p.m. Saturday and he found the vehicle against the guardrail but no occupants.
A few minutes later, a Maine State trooper reported he was talking with the people involved at 116 Osborne Road. They had walked away from the accident. The brakes had failed on the car, Osborne told police.
While talking with police, Osborne admitted to drinking but not driving, according to Rosie’s report. From the evidence at the scene and after confirmation by a friend, whose house the couple had just left, police made the charge, Heseltine said.
Because of prior convictions for driving under the influence, it became a felony charge, she said.
Osborne was given a summons, allowing him to go to the hospital with his daughter.
The crash disabled the car, which was towed from the scene by Collins Wrecker Service.
Members of Farmington Fire and Rescue also responded to help at the scene.
