WILTON — During a six-hour roadblock Friday night, local police stopped 245 vehicles to check for drunken drivers and found none, police Chief Heidi Wilcox said Monday.

However, there was one arrest on a bail violation charge and some citations on drug charges, she said.

On the Weld Road, 90 cars were stopped from 8 to 11 p.m., Wilcox said. On Route 2, 145 vehicles were stopped from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.

“It went well, and there were a lot of positive statements made,” she said.

The roadblock was part of the nationwide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. The Police Department will continue the campaign with extra patrols through the Labor Day holiday.

The local campaign is funded by a grant received in December from the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety. The department held two roadblocks in December and held extra patrols over Christmas and New Year’s holidays. The current campaign, from Aug. 16 to Sept. 2, is funded with that grant money, Wilcox said.

During 2012 there were four fatalities in Wilton in which drugs and alcohol were a factors. After that, Sgt. Chad Abbott applied for the grant.
